# How to Setup Twitter Share Provider

Features · Last updated on August 4, 2018

At the end of 2015, Twitter removed the share count feature from their API, which meant that your social sharing buttons no longer show how many times your content has been shared on Twitter.

Even though Twitter officially depreciated the social share counter, there is still a way to show them with Social Snap. There are three available methods for Twitter share counts:

  1. Click Tracking
  2. OpenShareCount
  3. NewShareCounts

#Click Tracking

Click Tracking method is the default Twitter share counting method in Social Snap. It simply tracks how many unique Twitter share clicks there were.

To enable it, log into your WordPress Dashboard and go to Social Snap » Social Sharing » Manage Networks and under the “Twitter Share Count Provider” choose Click Tracking.

#OpenShareCount

OpenShareCount is a free app that helps us show your Twitter share count. Follow these steps to setup the OpenShareCount on your website:

Go to opensharecount.com and sign up by entering your full name, email and your website domain (for example socialsnap.com).

You can only sign up for one domain per your Twitter account. If you sign up multiple times with the same Twitter account, OpenShareCount will only be enabled for the last domain you used.

After you click the “Sign Up!” button, you will be asked to authorize OpenShareCount app to do the necessary searches on your Twitter account.

OpenShareCount Authorization

Next, go back to your website and log into WordPress Dashboard. Go to Social Snap » Social Sharing » Manage Networks and under the “Twitter Share Count Provider” choose OpenShareCount.com.

That’s all!

Note: OpenShareCount starts showing share count from the day when you add your domain name. It won’t recover the old share count.

#New Share Count

Important: NewShareCounts platform closed down and is no longer available. Please use OpenShareCount for your Twitter share counts.

NewShareCounts is very similar to OpenShareCount.

Just follow the steps mentioned below & in 3 minutes you will be ready to show your Twitter share counts:

Go to newsharecounts.com, add your domain name & authenticate using your Twitter profile.

NewShareCounts Authorization

Once you have authenticated your account, it will start tracking Twitter share counts for your domain.

Next, go back to your website and log into WordPress Dashboard. Go to Social Snap » Social Sharing » Manage Networks and under the “Twitter Share Count Provider” choose NewShareCounts.com.

If you have more than one domain, you can go here & add all of your websites.

That’s all!

Note: OpenShareCount and NewShareCounts methods are not available with Social Snap Lite (free version).
